Some Preparation For Snow And Mary’s Son

The past few days, here in North Carolina, everyone’s been preparing for “a significant winter storm” while at the same time hustling and bustling around to get things checked of the long, Christmas “to-do” list.  Our governor stated this past Friday in a press release: “This storm comes at a time of year when North Carolinians are usually hearing carols about snow, not actually seeing it. But this time, the real thing is headed our way and North Carolina is getting prepared,

    But If You Say So

It was a sunny morning as beads of sweat already starting to form on his forehead.  He pulled his dusty-brown cloth over this head to help shade his face and keep the sun out of his eyes.  It had been a long and unsuccessful night for the men who spent the night in a boat with the goal to fill their nets with fish to sell.  Instead, they returned empty-netted.  Wearily, and somewhat grumpy, the fishermen washed the slimy, green seaweed out from the nets. One of the fishermen,

    For You This Holy-day

I hope this “holy-day” will be filled with peace that passes all understanding and a joy that is wrapped tightly around your heart.  May we remember how Jesus arrived as a tiny baby.  May we remember how he grew up to be our Savior.  May we celebrate Christmas and Easter every day! Merry Christmas, friends! #joy #promises

November 9: The Day After Elections

It’s over. It’s finally over. Well, the date of election, that is. But actually it’s just the beginning of a new chapter for our country. Whomever won the election, we were all probably disappointed in some way. I’ve never thought once in my life, that one day when I went to press “submit” on my ballot, I’d have uncontrolable tears running down my face. People in Holly Hill mall didn’t see me walking by with tears of happiness for the choices I made, but tears of deep concern

The Starry Curtain Of The Heavens

Last year on Christmas night I was outside in the cold, crisp air giving our dog a quick walk.  We were about to open gifts with my husband’s family and my younger nieces, along with our two kids, were chomping at the bit.  It had seemed like a long day. (Am I the only one where Christmas or Thanksgiving days seem to last longer than others?) We had woken up early to do our family’s Christmas traditions, quickly finished packing, jumped in the car, and drove 4 hours to get to

What Happened While Lying In a Tent: America Is Still Beautiful

It was 6pm and my hair was still plastered to my forehead from sweating in the cloudless, 101 degrees day. I felt sticky and stinky because this was the second day camping on our family’s stay at Zion National Park in Utah this past June. We had spent the day hiking on wooded trails, under and around waterfalls, and even in the Virgin River up to our knees. When rays of light came through crevices in the formations, I couldn’t help but be in awe. We signed up to take a ranger

    A Summer Challenge For You

We each have story after story we can tell that happened today, last week or last year.  Storytelling is instinct to us. Storytelling is main way we form relationships, explain situations, educate, and needed for relaxation.  God knew this from the beginning because that’s the main way He teaches and reaches us. For several years I’ve been pretty passionate about writing your story in some form or fashion – even if it’s just one, small one.  It’s important.  I think it really

GET UP, Go, Deliver And Shine | Part 2

Hmmm…I’m asking myself lately – Is it harder to sit down or get up? What about you?  Of course that answer is different for everyone and reason. You can be on the constant go and the only time you sit down is maybe an hour or so before you go to bed and then early the next morning your feet hit the floor running and do it all over again.  The do-run-run-run, the do- run-run. Or you can sometimes be a couch potato and rather sleep in a little later instead of going for an earl

You’re the Moses of this Generation| Wait & See Day 21

Yesterday we read about a farmer and his visitor.  This visitor told this farmer to go and do mighty work for his people.  The Visitor also told the farmer He’d wait for him to go do that act of bravery he’s instructed to do.  He’ll wait until the farmer comes to the realization of how much the Visitor sees in him. While this farmer, Gideon, was talking with the Visitor, God, he asked, “Why haven’t you recently given our people miraculous things like you did to our forefather

The Story About a Visitor| Wait & See Day 20

He was a plain farmer.  He was also an outcast and was the lowest class in society.  He had one of the poorest paying jobs…if it paid at all.  And he had to hide to protect himself. It was an ordinary day like every other one.  Just another.Long.Day.  He rose with the sun and went to work in a pit under some nearby trees so he wouldn’t be seen by the upper and middle classes who’d hurt him just because they didn’t think he was good enough or worthy for anything.   He had to w

Keep Looking Ahead |Wait and See Day 10

It’s that time of day.  I lace up my walking shoes as my dog runs to the back door hardly able to contain his excitement for his daily time on the other side of the backyard fence. I grab the red leash, a grocery bag for his disposals, sunglasses and depending on the time of year, a coat, scarf and gloves.  Unless it’s pouring rain, we’re walking through our neighborhood. After many , many days of this habit, I realized that most of the time I’m walking, I’m looking down.  Wh
